A group of concerned alumnae and friends of Sweet Briar College have joined to form Saving Sweet Briar, Inc., a Virginia corporation, with a goal of reversing the recent decision to close the College, so that the College can continue its important educational mission.
Saving Sweet Briar will initially have a board of directors made up of seven (7) distinguished alumnae from a diverse range of graduating classes, backgrounds and experience. An announcement will be made shortly regarding the makeup of the initial board. Saving Sweet Briar also will have an advisory board made up of alumnae and other members of the Sweet Briar community.
Saving Sweet Briar is in the process of setting up a bank account so that donations from alumnae and concerned members of the Sweet Briar community can be accepted. Saving Sweet Briar has an educational purpose, and has applied for status as a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. The organization will let donors know about its tax exempt status as soon as it is notified by the IRS.
Additional updates regarding Saving Sweet Briar will be provided before close of business tomorrow.
