September 2, 2015 Richmond VA– Saving Sweet Briar, Inc., the nonprofit group formed to save Sweet Briar College, announced today that it has completed its obligations under the June 23 settlement agreement by wiring its final payment to the College at noon today. The group donated a total of $3.643 million to the College in fulfillment of its final fundraising goal, comfortably exceeding the $3.5 million required by the settlement agreement.

“The dedication and generosity of the thousands of donors to Saving Sweet Briar, Inc., have allowed us to exceed the terms of the settlement agreement reached in June to keep the College open,” said Sarah Clement, Chair of Saving Sweet Briar, Inc. (Sweet Briar College, AB 1975; Columbia University, MA 1977; University of Virginia School of Law, JD 1984). “We are grateful beyond words to all of the volunteers who helped us reach all three fundraising milestones as well.

“The College would not be open and welcoming the classes of 2016-19 this semester without the efforts of the thousands of people who gave so generously of their time, talent and treasure since March 3, 2015. This was a historic and heroic effort by all who love Sweet Briar and dedicated themselves to the promise of seeing her thrive in perpetuity.”
